BloomBound is rooted in Holland, Michigan, a town built by Dutch immigrants and known for its tulip fields every May.
Tulips run in the family. In 1910, Harry Nelis crossed from Beverwijk in the Netherlands at seventeen and made his way to Holland, where the family began growing tulips. His sons grew up in that soil and went on to co-found Nelis' Dutch Village, a Holland landmark the family still runs today.
One of those sons was my grandfather, Fred Nelis Sr. He was an entrepreneur at heart: he saw opportunity, built something from scratch, and put in the work to make it grow. That's the part of the legacy I carry.
I didn't grow up farming tulips, but I grew up in Holland, surrounded by a culture that values hard work, patience, and things made to last.
